Spring Detox

Detox or Body Cleanse
In modern life, everything around us contains dangerous chemicals and
poisons. It has never been more critical to detoxify our bodies. Reducing or
eliminating the poisons inside the body can shield us from illness and promote
wellbeing. The procedure focuses on our interior organs, particularly those
that eliminate waste from our bodies, such as the liver and the colon.

The function of the liver in eliminating toxins
The liver plays a key role in the majority of metabolic processes, including
and most importantly detoxification. It is a filter, designed to remove toxins
and debris from the blood system. The liver neutralizes a wide range of toxic
chemicals, both those originating in the environment and those produced by
the body.

This occurs in a two-phased enzymatic process:

  • Phase One entails the breakdown of enzymes and neutralization of toxins;
  • Phase Two entails the synthesis and elimination of bile, which is the carrier of toxic substances.

The liver works very hard and non-stop in order to breakdown toxic substances.
When working properly, it cleans 99% of the toxins in our bodies. However,
when the liver is damaged or when metabolic processes are inhibited, due to
poor nutrition, alcoholism, allergies and other factors, the level and type of
toxins increases and can cause a wide range of problems: weight gain, digestive problems, skin conditions, headaches and migraines, back pain, mood swings, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and more.

Proper diet and periodic detoxification can alleviate these conditions.

What is a detoxification diet?
Detoxification diet is a broad term for a wide range of diets in which the overload
of bodily waste is reduced to enable the liver and elimination mechanisms
to restore proper functioning.

Detox diets are not a passing, contemporary trend. Toxic cleansing has been
an integral aspect of philosophies of healing in many ancient cultures, such as
Chinese and Indian, where it is considered essential to well-being. Many known
healers, such as the Rambam and Eben Sineh, for example, advocated detoxification
as a means of repairing and restoring the body to
effective functioning.

You may have heard of all sorts of extreme detoxification diets and be
concerned that you will feel hungry on such a diet. In fact, this is not
the case at all! The following pages will explain why.

Preparing the body for detoxification
It is a good idea to prepare yourself in advance for detoxification. This entails
providing the body with essential minerals, vitamins, anti-oxidants, amino
acids, etc. It is also important to maintain a diet that is rich in fresh fruit and
vegetables, sprouts and legumes for several weeks before the process. Finally,
one should gradually reduce the intake of caffeine in order to prevent headaches
during the period of detoxification. Detoxification can be carried out at home, but it is important that it not be extreme.

The first days should be accompanied by side - effects and reactions to
the treatment, which are normal signs that the process is working as expected.

Some of the expected side-effects and reactions

  • Headaches
  • Diarrhea, constipation or both
  • Skin rash
  • Common cold symptoms
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Nervousness
  • Strong smell of bodily discharges
  • Temporary worsening of existing conditions
